How can I know when to replace a USB flash drive before it even fails? What are the warning signs assuming warranty has expired? How can I tell when to buy a new USB flash drive before it actually fails? I have a 16mg drive but wouldnt want to Lose precious information and thats why im asking. can someone please tell me what to do? rsvp. thank you.

They can go out at any time and you might not get any indication of it happening. Always have a backup for important data.

Solution, get another one and mirror the data to it. Then when one of them fails replace it and copy the data from the spare.

In my experience I physically break or lose a flash drive long before it ever stops working of "natural causes".

There is normally no warning that any storage device is going to pack up. As said all your important stuff should be being backed up to somewhere else including stuff on your hard drive. Unfortunately even the best back up regime is not foolproof.

If its failed already it's too late. This is why you need separate backups. By mirroring, he means just copy data from one drive to another.

I'd recommend an external hard drive. It will hold a lot of data, and it will all be in one place. I usually have all of my data on my desktop, external hard drive, and flash drives as well.
