No Monitor Display when VGA Cable plugged into video card port

So, when plugging in the VGA cable into my video card's VGA port the monitor shows no display. It isn't an internal problem as the computer turns on and the keyboard and mouse light up after a couple of seconds which I can assume is that the computer is in the OS but does not show any display. There is a monitor display when the VGA cable is plugged into the motherboard which forces me to use the integrated graphics. I have tried many remedies to this problem including swapping VGA cables but the problem still occurs. Any solutions to this problem?

Function +F8 to duplicate screen output? And/or reducing resolution to minimum.. good luck.

What video card do you have? Does it require power from the power supply? What motherboard do you have? Some have options in the bios to choose video output location.

1. Nvidia Geforce GTS250
2. Yes
3. An LGA 775 HP motherboard

I doubt that motherboard will have the option for video output. What specific model of HP do you have? Sounds like the video card may have taken a crap on you.

The model of the HP PC is an HP Compaq dx2310 Microtower PC.
I do have a hypothesis on why the GPU doesn't display any output possibly due to overheating, because sometimes during gaming sessions (before I had this problem) the screen blacks out and then shows display again but the game freezes and the taskbar shows an error saying "NVIDIA Kernel Mode Driver version 342.01 has stopped responding and has successfully recovered." something like that. I don't know if that error occurs due to another problem but I assume it's due overheating.
After restarting my pc though, I notice that it doesn't show display. So this was the start of the problem.
