Anyone know why my M.2 isnt working?

Hello all,

I recently purchased a 500gb Samsung 970 Evo Plus for my build and spent 3 hours installing it with no avail. At first i thought i might not be putting it in all the way, but i tried several times and it seems like thats not the case. It seems to be in all it can go. When i go into my bios, or even just looking for it on the file explorer, its not there, hence why i thought it wasn't plugged in all the way. If anyone can help me i would really appreciate it.

MOBO: Gigabyte B450 DS3H
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600X
Ram: 16gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000Mhz
Graphics Card: Geforce GTX 1070 G1 Gaming
Power Supply: EVGA 750w G2
Storage: Some random 1tb hard drive

Thanks,
Dom

Do things like Windows installer see it? Does your BIOS have a m.2 model info page? Mine's generally hard to find but things like the OS find it. You probably won't see it on file explorer since it doesn't have a file system yet.

No. I even unplugged my hard drive to make sure when going to the windows installer and it’s just blank. Not even one option to install windows on. As for the BIOS, I’m not exactly sure what you mean. The only thing in the manual about a M.2 is something to do with RAID, and I’m not really sure what that means. I also tried creating a partition so it would show up and my file explorer, and I couldn’t even do that because it wasn’t there.

Sounds like the M2 might be dead. Any way possible to try it in a different pc, maybe a friends?

So you're saying you went into Disk Management in Windows and it's not showing up? You have to initialize secondary hard drives before you can see them in Windows.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/disk-management/initialize-new-disks

As for the BIOS:

Go into 'BIOS' tab > Boot Option Priorities

Or:

'Peripherals > NVMe Configuration

Ya i probably could try that. Although i just purchased it so im not sure why that would be.
So you think because you just bought it that it should work? In a perfect world maybe but have you ever heard of being DOA (dead on arrival)? Happens all the time

I already tried to initialize it and it wasn’t even there. As for the bios. In boot priority, I have my hard drive and two other options which are my usb to put windows on it. The M.2 isn’t even there. All the other options are the same on the Bios menu. On the peripheral menu, when I went to NVMe Configuration, it just says “ no NVMe devices found.” I just update my bios so I’m starting to think it’s the M.2 itself.

Ya I know. I was just trying to eliminate any other options first. I am starting to think that may be the case though.

Is it possible that it is not in the socket, a friend of mine had a similar problem? Came to realize that he pushed it in just above the metal and the plastic.

I’m almost positive it’s in the right place. Could you somehow describe how it’s supposed to be inserted?
