How Much Longer Will My Phone Last Me

I have a Samsung galaxy s8 which I've had for about 2 years now. Its finally paid off so I'm now only paying for activation and my unlimited data plan, which is a bit more affordable. I really like this phone especially since I don't like the design of the newer samsung galaxy phones that much. I don't use my phone for much at the moment. I mostly use it to browse the internet or stream music through spotify. Since I now have a tablet that I use strictly for playing mobile games I don't have many games on my phone. The only game I have on my phone is pokemon go. As I mentioned in another topic when I move out sometime next year I plan on using this phone as a mobile hotspot to connect to the internet. Just wondering how much longer until this phone will be almost unusable and considered old technology. My plan is to keep this phone as long as I can since I can't really afford a new phone at the moment despite having a job now. Got to save up for an apartment of my own anyway.

I used my last phone for 4 years. I only replaced it because it started to randomly restart. I think it was a battery issue, but I didn't want to go replacing stuff until I found the issue.

As long as it's taken care of, it should last for a long time. Batteries will degrade with age and charge cycles, but as far as stuff just not working, it's rare. I've replaced charging ports and a board that had moisture on it and everything was good as new hardware wise. The S8 is sealed, but with the right tools, the rear cover is able to be removed and the phone accessed that way. If you end up breaking the back cover in the process, you can get a cheap replacement from hundreds of places on Amazon or eBay.

Fwiw, I still have a working S2, S3, S4, and S7. All but the S2 see almost daily use.

It's all subjective, if it can do the things you want it to do at an acceptable performance level (speed, battery life, connectivity) then keep on trucking. If it pisses you off from some deficiency, replace it.

I have the S8+ and love it. I've had it for 2 years and 3 months and there is nothing wrong with it at this time. I plan on keeping it until it dies. Battery was replaced about 6 months ago due to having to replace the screen because of dead pixels. Keep yours until doesn't work. I'm not sure if the S8 will get Android 10 update or not. Usually they only allow 2 years of support for a phone. Right now its not listed for the update but the article was 4 months ago.

The battery on my S8+ is getting pretty pathetic and also starting to get some mild screen burn in. Still have over a year on it though, likely not worth spending any money on it and it's been cracked for a year.

How much was the battery replacement and did it seem ok when it was put back together? I used to repair phones but as soon as they hit ths Galaxy S6 with glued down glass I told myself I wouldn't open one up again. Tore down my LG G4 half a dozen times though.

It was fixed under warranty. Took in to sprint and they had the screen replaced and new battery in an hour. I will not have a phone without paying for the insurance monthly, there is just too much that can go wrong with them.

I have an S7, not sure how many years I've had it but it still works fine and I have no plans to replace it soon since it still meets all my needs.

I replaced the battery about a year ago.

Luckily my phone seems to work fine for being as old as it is. Haven't had much problems with the battery yet but that will probably have to be replaced soon as my phone will act up sometimes and I think it's the battery. Hopefully it won't cost too much to get battery replaced as that seems to be the main problem with phones after having them so long.

What phone? As long as it's not anything from the past 2ish years they're usually pretty cheap. Once they went all glass construction front and back with glue was when it got expensive.
