Hey everyone.

I'm looking to update my Gateway 4860DX HDD to a SSD.

I was just wondering if anyone could suggest a decent upgrade that is compatible with my tower. I don't it for gaming or anything special. Just a casual user/browsing computer is my need. Its working fine as is and is quick. I have been having issues with last 3 Windows updates and I was suggested that being that it's an older computer that a new harddrive would possibly solve the issue.

Here is a link of the towers specs from CNET. https://www.cnet.com/products/gateway-dx4860-ub32p-tower-core-i3-2120-3-3-ghz-6-gb-1-tb/

Thanks in advance
Daniel

Anything SATA should work, just keep in mind your board's ports are limited to SATA 3 Gbps so your effective SSD transfer rates will be limited around ~275 MB/sec

I have been experiencing issues with the last 3 windows 10 updates. They stall at 81% 99% and after hard resetting my computer it just undoes all the updates that it attempted to do. I've been experiencing this issue the last year, attempting numerous ways to install and correct this issue to no avail and I figure a new harddrive would essentially correct this problem. My computer tech suggested the last time I took it in that that was more than likely the problem that it is just not able to install it correctly.

If I block the updates, the computer works fine and as is, but being this unit is almost 8 years old, I figure a new SSD would breath new life into it for the time being.

Your system may not be fully compatible with 10 since its 8 years old. But usually you will find that a fresh install will fix the update issue.

It should. An SSD will see a noticeable improvement but you'll be limited in speed as Beers posted.
