mice and other pointing devices not appearing in device manager

Hello,

I have a problem which I cannot resolve. The 'mice and other pointing devices' is not appearing in the device manager. Which mean there is no mouse pointer on the windows operating and therefore I cannot move or click on anything on screen.

Can anybody help me figure out how to fix this issue and resolution. I have tried restarting and so on but that does not work either. It just doesn't seem to pick up that I should have this within the device manager, however, when I insert a USB mouse device this is detected in the device manager.

Thanks in advance.

So you are saying that round (ps/2) port on the back doesn't detect a mouse? If so, the port is probably bad, just use a usb mouse.

Sorry I wasn't clear. In the device manager list you normally see keyboard followed by 'mice and other pointing device'. This doesn't appear on the list so I have no option for me to control mouse or pointer on the laptop. not PC.

The pointer has disappeared and mice pointing device no longer there or detected. normally it should just turn up.

How do i get mice pointer device back or the laptop to recognise that i should have one installed. if that makes sense?

Thanks in advance.

If this is a laptop sounds like the touchpad and keyboard cables are loose. Have you torn it apart?

I have removed the touchpad and keyboard cables inside the laptop and reconnected. That hasn't worked, so i'am not sure what else it could be. Its no longer detected in the device manager list.

What I meant was it torn apart before hand? If you are sure the cables are attached correctly then its either a bad motherboard, as in some type of damage has been done to the laptop or its possible there could be settings in the bios that has disabled the onboard keyboard and touchpad but i doubt it. If you connect a usb keyboard and mouse does it detect them? Go into the bios and see if there are any settings for keyboard and touchpad that need to be enabled.

Was not torn before hand.

When I connect usb keyboard and mouse. yes it does detect.

Not sure what I am doing in the bios setting but it worth a try.

Thanks
