Unusual display/Video situation -

1)...I use the older Windows XP Pro and use two monitors.

2)...I have the display(s) set to use "monitor 1" as my "primary desktop" (task-bar at bottom, etc).

3)...I have the display(s) set to use "monitor 2 " as my "extended desktop".

4)...If I play (for example) an mpeg video on "monitor 2 " of the display(s), it will not display the playing video on "monitor 1" , in fact, the video will ONLY play on one of the two monitors and not the other.

5)...While the video (both sound and video) is playing, I can "slide" the video interface (using VLC Player) over from one monitor to the other and, when it gets about 1/2 way, I lose whatever portion of the video that is in the other monitor! The sound is fine but, here is where I start the video display issue.

6)...I can hear the sound portion fine but, no video display when the video i slid over..

Why is that since "monitor 2 is an extended desktop that I should lose the video portion?

Are you trying to watch the same image across 2 screens or something here or just moving a window back and forth?

Some modern hardware and an operating system that isn't 2 DECADES old is probably a good place to start. Sounds like some limitation of playing live video across multiple screens. Different video player might be worth trying too.

Just watching on one screen/monitors...I used to do this as recent at mid-late August...If i needed to slide it out of the way, I could with no issues.

No, not a good place to start since I am using the same monitor(s), computer, and graphics card, same player (VLC).

Sounds like some limitation of playing live video across multiple screens. Different video player might be worth trying too.
No....I have done this before in fact, back in late July...I reformatted my computer as it was "about time to" and it workED fine. I cannot figure it out.

Possibly a display driver issue. Or if it was working correctly just recently, you can do a system restore back to when it was working. Or possbily try using a different monitor to make sure its not a monitor issue.

I have considered that. To be honest, I am NOT sure if the driver I am using was/is the same one I used before....I am already contemplating searching for another driver.

No, not possible...I did a total re-format, remember?...I was using a single monitor up to the other day while I was transferring/loading files back onto my reformatted computer so, no restore point exist where a dual monitor setup was operating.

Or possbily try using a different monitor to make sure its not a monitor issue.
Already did that so that they were not suspect.

Go into device manager, expand the display adapter section and take a screenshot of it and post it here.

So are you saying it wasn't working correctly after the reformat?

No, what I said was all was working until I reformatted the HD. I did not save the installed drivers. But, it DID work - no hardware changes just, as aforementioned, possible incorrect driver is all I have left to try.

Clearly a software issue between drivers/config. John was hoping you'd post Device Manager to see the ones you didn't install drivers for. The generic Windows driver is pretty terrible in most instances when you're trying to leverage accelerated workloads.

You could have grabbed this in 10 seconds by Win+R -> devmgmt.msc -> Alt+Printscreen on the Device Manager window -> Paste into the reply box here.

I believe I presented that and was "up-front". EVERYTHING worked BEFORE I reformatted. When I reformatted I did not save drivers. When I reinstalled everything, that is when the issue arouse. Not being sure of driver could be it as was stared and as I agreed.

Yes, I know that and will do that soonest but, involved in something a bit more critical now and most of my attention is diverted to that!

Sheesh I remember my GeForce 3 being faster than that card literally 20 years ago.

Why do you never upgrade?
Personal choice and preference. It worked once and should work again.

CORRECTION - I jumped to conclusions - I thought the site/link was to a driver site NOT of the manufacturer...sorry...will try it.

yes, but was working IF it was the same driver I used before. I went on the dell site and it did not recognize the model and tag of my desktop.

Thats not a generic driver site, its straight from manufacturer Nvidia which makes the chip on the video card you are using. We don't link drivers from places like that, always from the manufacturer.

I just got done correcting my statement just as your reply came in seconds ago...I will try it soonest.

I just attempted to do a download and on all visible links got the following:

"The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred".

Debatable my dude, it’s all related. Newer equipment works more seamlessly out of the box, you wouldn’t have the same issue on an igpu from the last decade or so.

Hopefully that driver from 15 years ago works better for you.

Well, all I can say all worked with what I was/am using and so, should work again.

**UPDATE**
Last night I fooled around with all the settings and dl'ed another driver from some obscure place and, after fooling around with all - IT WORKS!...I have no idea as to what I did and not sure if it was another driver that did it or, at least in part contributed to the fix..

**I would like to take this opportunity to again thank all those whom contributed their responses and time**.
