I got my gpu a while ago and now I have had to switch to a worse gpu. The gpu Im trying to fix is a gtx 970 I have tried it on different systems to see if it is the system or the gpu. It is the gpu and when ever I bump it or tap my pc slightly the gpu turns off and I get the usb unplug sound. I have re pasted the graphic card too see if it a heat issue and I have bought new thermal pads that will be coming soon. Sometimes it does boot at all also. any help is appreciated.

- Update the thermal pads did not fix the graphics card from randomly shutting off.

Sounds like a loose connection between the PCI pins and the slot. Maybe try cleaning them with rubbing alcohol? Unfortunately GPU's can be pretty hard to fix with stuff like that.

Also a weird thought, but what if you lay the machine down on it's side so that GPU is upright and the motherboard is parallel with the ground/table. This will make it so the GPU doesn't have to hang in the slot but instead sit right in it. If you have a loose connection it could help.

Unfortunately I have tried that before and I have put in other systems and there is no difference.

Yeah I heat gunned the core and so far it is working now Something sketch is def happening there though.

I think there is a weak solder join can I just reflow it or do I need to take the core off clean it then put the solder balls on it melt it then put it back on the car?

about 1 hour in still fine will update if problem comes back.

You're on your own man. I wouldn't jack with it any further before you electrocute or burn yourself.
