Good free photo editor?

I've yet to find one. Here's what I've tried:

• Adobe Photoshop express: not avail for PC
• Darktable: UI sucks and lacks basic editing stuff
• GIMP: UI also sucks and couldn't find functionality I wanted
• Ashampoo: would not install (R/W error)
• PhotoDirector: With "free" version, you can't save images without a watermark making it worthless
• XnView: could not get effects to work

Try installing ashampoo again but this time right click on the install file and click on "run as admin" R/w error usually means a permission error.

Sounds like some user error to me. If you're using a cracked copy that usually generates issues.

What a ridiculous answer. Why would I use a cracked copy of free software? Why would anyone even create such a thing?

I accepted the defaults, so seriously doubt it's "user error."

When you put quotes around free, it typically means a pirated copy of a paid product.

Most photo editing software sucks if you're used to Photoshop.

GIMP isn't as bad as you make it sound, their workflow is just different. If you're used to another program's workflow, it takes time to get used to it.
