To Widescreen? Or... Not?

For a gaming LCD Panel. I am going with a 20.1" monitor either way. The Widescreens are more money obviously... I am in the price range of about $400 and have been scoping some stuff out.

I am a little skeptical to the compatibility of Video Cards/Monitor/Games for a widescreen. Would every game support widescreen resolutions? Or would I have to demoralize my widescreen with certain games. haha

I have never seen a widescreen monitor on a computer/gaming. So I am not sure on how things will look.

Any opinions?

When you get into the larger widescreen lcd's, from my expierence, it seems that only higher end graphics card's support the proper resolutions.

Not true my X300SE was not a high end card and could support my 20.1'' widescreen monitor with no problems.

go widescreen for sure. about half of games these days (possibly more) support widescreen and it is worth it for these games. Plus, the stretch from 4:3 to 16:10 doesn't ruin the game. It isn't that bad at all. Very playable:)

What do you guys think of the links provided?

So I guess i'm gonna go widescreen! :-)

Would you consider a 7900GT a higher end card supporting widescreen?

8 and 16ms? Everyone is saying 5-6 is the maximum you should have for a gaming Monitor though? Hrm... I hate not knowing sh!t!

My DELL has a 16ms response time and i have no ghosting or gaming issues at all although some people can tell a difference between 8 and 5ms i dont have a problem with 16ms. its your choice whatever you want to go with.

"once you get a widescreen monitor you will never turn back"

It is true. The same is true with double monitor displays versus one. I had Call of Duty 2 running with two 19" widescreen lcd's, and when I shut one off again I was in shock at how small the picture was. (we were running 2880x900). My advice...don't ever even try double display, just buy a widescreen.

i would get widescreen its defanitly worth it im thinking about getting the dell 24"

You guys have me convinced! I am definitely going with a 20.1" widescreen!! Thanks a bunch!! Just nervous about picking the right one now! I have a $400 budget and I have a thread or two asking the question but what should I go with?! Depending on if the monitor above the $400 mark is just worlds better then the one that lets say... $380 or so. Then I will definitely make the jump and spend $450-$500 on the monitor. I just want to make sure the picture will be immaculate and enough to compliment my system!!

I have a few people telling me that 8ms is plenty for gaming and they will be no ghosting. Others say that its mandatory to have at least 5-6ms!! So I am very confused on who is right! I just want an excellent $400 Widescreen LCD Monitor!! :-)
