LCD or CTR

I'm buying an XBox 360. So I need a new TV and I've needed a new monitor for a while now. So I decided to buy a flat-panel LCD tv and I'll use the S-video for my computer. I rarely watch TV and use the computer at the same time and since I got a tv tuner i usually watch tv on the computer. But I was reading about LCD displays and I got a little spectacle about dead pixles and stuff. Is it a good idea or should i stick to a CTR tv and just buy a flat panel monitor for my computer? Right now when I watch movies I just extend my desktop to my current CTR tv and pull the video window there. however, i dont know if its because my tv is a little older than todays but a while after I started using it on the computer, the picture kind of shrunk horizonally. it like having a wide screen aspect on a full screen all the time. Has anyone experienced that?

This is going to sound stupid, but are you sure it's plugged in ALL the way? #1 rule: always check the physical connection when something doesn't work, Although this probably isnt the problem. Anyway, are you sure your system can handle it being on for so long? And check your video cards temperature to see if it's going through the roof.

I always have problems with S-Video, although my computer is garbage.

I have my old Samsung tv as a secondary monitor, useful when watching movies or driving games cause I can't get the Sidewinder Precision Racing Wheel infront of the CRT monitor. And it takes quite a bit of playing around to get the signal perfect so that it covers the entire TV screen.

could be the simple settings on the tv....the lcd's have normal, full screen and sometimes theater wide(mine does anyway) and if its on normal the screen will look weird and shrunken

how do I use a tv as a 2nd monitor? like leaving my desktop on it while playing games or something?

If your vid card has an s-video out, then you can plug it up to your s-video in. then you can extend the desktop, in "display properties"-->"settings" tab. usually when you a game, you cant really do anything else. sometime I can watch a movie depending on the game. but I can always watch a movie or tv with my tunner while doing almost anything else.
