Thermal paste...

i was wondering what thermal paste to get, people are sayin that the arctive silver is good??

and also how much do i put on the cpu?

Arctic Silver is good, you need to replace it every so often though. You don't need too much, just put a pea sized drop on the middle and clamp the heatsink down, it'll spread out enough. Some people like to spread it but I find this works just as well and is less effort.

That is a cool way of doing it! I haven't used AC5 before, but I have bought some for my E6300 system.

Would you recommend I just follow the instructions AC provide on their site, or just do it how you say?

Unless the surface of the heatsink and CPU are lapped to a PERFECT finish; an ABSOLUTE PERFECT finish, then paste is needed to fill the microscopic canyons and pits.

i was running an old amd processor without a heatsink and fan, the temps worn't as bad as i thought (35'c - 45'c) until i wanted to oc it and c what happened

yep bad results without thermal paste...it allows the heat to spread evenly over the cpu or coolness i should say without it'll fry

whats the outcome of not putting thermal paste on the cpu when you put it back on?

Very bad...

Very, very bad... Can you say "cpu destruction?"

Well if you have it on from before, and you take it off and put it back on, it won't "destroy" you cpu, though it might cause it to rise a few degrees, i've done it with my old prescott celeron and it didn't do much.

Your CPU wouldn't die or get destoryed or anything that terrible without putting it back on, It would just not stay nearly as cool, which running it at full loud for a while might be a problem but most motherboards will jsut shut it off anyways if it ever does get THAT hot.

Does anyone else notice a pattern?....I wish it kept going.:(

^What^

Why would you want that theory to keep going on when it's only true to a certian degree.

And I hope your talking about a small pea. If you put that much AS on, thats to much. All you need is like the size of a bb or less in the center. When you put the hs on the pressure distrubites the paste evenly. As long as the heat sink and fan doesn't go on in a rocking motion.

As stated before. All the paste does is fill in the grooves and dings in the ish and ha surface.

Hope this helps,

Bob

Thanks for bringing in the facts...

Gee, thanks for the reality check. But if you want to go technical then when if really really really bad is the computer caught on fire, and then really x4 bad is if you try to put out the electrical fire out with water, And extremely bad is if you get electrocuted. And really extremely bad is if the shock acts like a tazer and momentarily paralyzes you. And bad beyond imagination is... well, its beyond imagination so we'll stop it there.:D
