my mouse click randomly disables. for example, i will open up IE or even a folder, and the mouse moves but the click doesnt work until i hit alt cnt del. then I simply hit cancel in the alt cnt del menu instead of chosing task mngr, lock comp, ect. I just double... yeah thats right i have to double click..... the cancel button then everythings fine for awhile. about 1 out of ten times this happens. i have pc cillin and adaware so i doubt its a virus but wth..... anyone know whats goin on here? its a real pain in the ass
thx for any help !!!!

one thing i forgot to say.... this only happens when i open or switch to a different window. it wont happen if i stay in the same program or window.

Are you running a standard or programmable mouse? With an MS optical, cordless, or Logitech for example your software and drivers would be removed and reinstalled to correct this. With a standard hard wired mouse there are two main causes like the buttons or contacts are worn or the MS mouse.sys file has been damaged.

its an ms optical. i didnt even think to reinstall the driver considering i never installed one in the first place.... xp seemed to already have a suitable one. but ill give that a try thx.

The MS mice love drivers there. I run the Trackball Explorer with the 5 programmable buttons with one set for ALT another for CTRL and you know the rest(right click -double click-space bar for gaming). If you have a can of air cleaner onhand give a light blast under the buttons and clean the optical part along with installing the drivers. Once in awhile you may have to refresh those with a removal and reinstall if you see any glitches. That can happen after a few months of adding/removing new programs at times.
