Is it true an Athlon XP at 2.2GHz is as good as a P4 3.0Ghz?

OK, I have the socket A version of this CPU. Haven't had time to test this out due to down MOBO. I swear it said all over the Internet that this little 2.2GHz CPU is as fast and good as a P4 3.0GHz. I think it has a feature that makes 400Mhz FSB to 800Mhz FSB like the P4.
Here's my proof. http://www.a1-electronics.net/AMD_Section/CPUs/AthlonXP_3200+_May03.shtml

If this is correct, then does this mean my Bolton core CPU is faster than http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116001

when not overclocked???

You really can never compare and intel to an amd. They will both do better or worse in some situations, like gaming for amd is their strenth. The only true way would be to benchmark in every test possible and compare them, but even then the results will be scattered if the cpu's are comparable.

Amd has always been about performance and not producing a CPU with the highest Ghz. Intel on the other hand has been the opposite; they have been producing CPUs and rate them by the Ghz in which they opperate. Recently, Intel has been making CPUs that process more data per Ghz. That is why you cant really compare those two processors like that. And btw, that 805 would spank your processor.

Yeah, I kinda figured that it would "spank" my CPU. Hay by the way, when that Dual core CPU says 2.66GHz, does that mean 2.66GHz per core. In other words 2.66 x 2?

Dual core is far from twice the speed, but if you have software that can utilize it, there can be a rather nice increase in performace.

Each core is 2.66GHz, but it doesn't mean your cpu is like a 5.32 GHz cpu, it would only run comparably to that fast if both cpu's were at 100% usage, even then you can't say taht.

OH. It was just a guess that my CPU was as good. Just thinking if my CPU is right up there with a P4 3.0GHz, then maybe My CPU is as good as a 2.66GHz. But all and all it was just a guess.

Depends on what your doing, if your running one program at a time the AMD might be faster, if your multitasking the intel would be faster
