Hey, I finnaly got my new computer and I put it all together following the instructions EXACTLY and it's not finding any of the drives(I have a floppy, a CD, and a 40 Gig HDD plugged in), It only has one IDE because I was supposed to have a SATA HDD I guess, So I was wondering if I can have both the CD drive and the HDD plugged in on the same PCI cable. If not than help, if you need the specs, post here and I'll get them. It turns on, go through some screens testing it or something, than displays this error message "Reboot and Select proper boot device or Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" It's probobly something REALLY easy, but I'm a retard, so help me! lol I've been working on it for the last 10-12 hours, so sorry if it's one of the stupidest questions ever. I think I might need to update the BIOS, so it might help to mention that the mobo is a ECS Eleitegroup 945PL-A and the processor is a Pentium D 805.

well if the dc and hard drive are sharin the same IDE slot, make sure that one is on master and the other on slave. go into bios and select either the hdd or cd to boot up first. try that just to clear some things.

sweet, just tried it, now it's finding the HDD, still is refusing to find the CD, but it found the hard drive:D so I'm getting closer. So close and yet so far away, lol.

is it not being read in my computer? 4 your cd-drive? make sure the wires are plugged into the cd-drive all the way, and secure, if they are, go into your bios, and mess around in there...

had the same problem with my 240, had 2 screw with the bios, threw a perfectly good cdrw drive out, because i couldnt get it 2 work, and thought it was the drive .

alright, cool, it found them both now, the reason that it didn't find them the first time is because I forgot to plug the IDE cable back into the CD Drive, I unplugged it so that I could switch it from Master to slave, what boot order do you think they should go in, what should I do next, here's what I have XP home CD, XP boot disks, and a disk that lets me format and do other stuff to the HDD. my main goal is to get XP home up and running. The boot devices are HDD, Floppy, Network: Realteck Boot Agent, and then the CD drive. Thanks for your help.

man, I have a good feeling about this, it might be up and running sooner than I thought. Once it does I'm going to have a great computer though:D than I'm either going to get a 250 GB SATA HDD(giving me 290 if I use my 40 gig and 460 if I use my 160 gig & my 40 gig, but I don't have enough IDEs for that, can I have more than 2 devices plugged into and IDE strip at one time???) or get another GB of RAM giving me 1 1/4 gigs of RAM

I Did It!!!!

YAAAY!! I DID IT!! I WIN!! after about 13-15 hours of hard work and brain straining thinking(along with all of your help) I finnaly beat the computer and it's letting me install XP as I'm typing this :D . Man, that was such a pain, oh well, at least when I do this again in December(I'm building one for my mom's house) I'll be able to do it in about 2 hours or so.

good job, just hope windows successfully installs , im a psychis, and my guess is it's going 2 install successfully (im not a psychic).

yeah it should install good, I ran into a few problems (files were corrupt on my last install, but they're not nessicary, besides I got limewire and about 100 floppys I can use if I need to.)

BTW, why's it say banned as your status if you just posted and are obviously not banned?

everything looks like it's going smooth so far, do you know how I can have 3 IDE devices running off of just one IDE port, my mobo only had one IDE port and I can only hook up the CD and my 40 gig, I was wondering if there was some way I could hook up my 40 gig, my 160 gig and my CD drive at the same time?

Now when your build your mom's pc you wont make as many mistakes. Try to minimize mistakes when building a PC especially when you plug in and unplug wires...thats somthing I always try to avoid. I normally fully connect everything in about 1 hour and then triple-check to make sure everything is placed correctly. Then I turn on my pc, do some bios configuration, and install windows. Anyways, good job:D

Yeah, I should have done that first, it shorted and smells a little burnt now, nothing really happened, it just smells burnt. it looks so cool though, exept for one of the leds on the fan went out, I think I'm going to get 3 more fans, 1 120 mm and 2 80mm, it has room for all of them. but I think the one on the side of the case with the burnt out led will go in the front of the case, where it's not as visible. If you have a fan on the side of the case, do you think it's supposed to pull air in, or bring air out??

Mine pulls air in.

You can only have 2 devices running on 1 channel of IDE. Why dont you just get an SATA harddrive, they're about the same price as IDE's now..

yeah, I know, the problem is I don't have any money, I'm about to get 70 bucks, with that and the $ I have saved up I can get a 250 gig off of newegg, but I don't know if I want the hard drive, or 1 gig of ram, the ram is about 3 $ cheaper.

What about something that converts SATA to IDE or something?

I might get the 250 gig for $80 and than sell some of my PSP movies & games on ebay for the RAM, I don't watch them or play them much cuz I got homebrew.
