Doom 3 STILL? Really?
Well... my friends system came pretty close to running Oblivion on max setting.
He has a 3800+, 6600gt, 1gb of PC3200 ram, some X-Fi Sound card
I have... E6600, 7900GT, 2gb of PC6400 ram, and X-Fi Fatality
I am hoping to run any game out on max settings right now! Think i'm wrong?

I saw him play it on Ultra settings... I saw him set it up and play it. It ran! Not great... laggy... but it ran!
How much better of a system would I have to get to play any game on max?
The gpu might run oblivion to max or you might not get enough fps in that game with max settings. You Could of just bought X1900xtx to be on the safeside.ChrisUlrich

I was gonna get the GS2 but since DX10 is coming out in less then a year... I am going to wait and get a DX10 compatible video card.
Couldn't I overclock the 7900GT? I am kinda disappointed I won't be able to play everything on max settings!

max setting aint everything, game play is more important, aslong as you can get close to max. coz youll be able to max out on one game and then there will be newer games and then you wont be able to, its always going to be this way. unless you keep uprading that is...

For current games, I'd say FEAR or Oblivion, BF2 has great graphics but in a more subtle way and it isnt as hard on your graphics card because its made as an online game so if they added those super awesome specular water effects and fully detailed trees and a gallon of blood spew out of bodies.....online gameplay would be slow. BF2 mostly has great texturing and a nice dash of dust clouds and explosions. I'm waiting for Crysis to come out though.
