i'm looking for a cpu for under 100 dollars U.S. that will be supported by my mobo, which i got the specs for, FINALLY Motherboard Info

The attempt to locate board specifications for the Socket 478 model board there were futile. But you wouldn't be able to go up very far on the older model there at this time. The oldest model cpu seen at newegg may not even run on that model board. The fsb on the models seen there started at 533mhz. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819112208
 
so, should i save up for the 99$ one? or just get the 3400? cause i kinda need one now to play all the new games i'm getting : oblivian, battlefield2, and a few others

You want to consider moving into a Socket 939 board and cpu for the dual channel capability seen there. You choose from several that still run DDR400 PC3200 dimms. In fact there are some models that still run AGP video cards. Yet I ran Half Life 2, Counter Strike, and Metal of Honor on a Socket A board. So don't rule out an upgrade quite yet on the 754 model there. The dual channel along with an increase in memory help when running games with more demanding graphics however.
 
Do you plan on running any of the newer games? Speed and performance increases would be seen with the newer hardwares out. The idea of dual channel seen on Socket 939 boards is to force programs running in the background to use a secondary channel while you run a large program on the first. Socket 754 boards are strictly single channel.

The costs on the newer line of Socket 939 boards have dropped greatly where you can get into a faster board along with a faster processor. You just have to do a little bargain shopping for the best prices.

one controller reads and writes data while the second controller prepares for the next access, hence, eliminating the reset and setup delays that occur before one memory module can begin the read/write process all over again.

If you stick with 754 I would save a little more and go with the Athlon not the Sempron
 
if u do go with that athlon be careful as it does not include a heatsink or fan so u will need to purachase another one, also all three of those motherboards are very cheap(as you would expect they are free afterall)and although the athlon is a bit faster the sempron 3400 is a great overclocker mine is running at 2.7 ghz and i can run battlefield and half-life 2 with no processor issues
 
All AMD cpus come with a stock HSF included whether you buy retail or OEM. But who runs stock anymore? With Zalman and Artic Cooling around you don't need to.
 
check that last line in the specs it says very clearly cooling device- none proccesor only

so he would have to buy a $30(i think thats they are around correct me if im wrong) heatsink and fan which would put him over his budget...

Never saw a OEM processor that came with a heatsink and fan unless you paid extra for it

Maybe you have been going to the wrong vendor. :P A bare bones kit will see a cpu come in just the plastic contained along with the bubble pack. A good OEM generally sees the stock hsf shipped along with it.
 
yeah, i already run the latest and greatest, but i want more eye-candy. can upgrading my mobo AND cpu do that for me? also, the board i'll buy will have to be agp and pci-e. do they make those??? (i want it like that so i can upgrade from my current agp graphics card in time)
