hi, i was talking to my friend b4 and i asked him are the parts im gonna get ok the v-card i was getting is 7900gt asus. but he said wat about directX 10. so im sorta confused if i shud wait for the new v-cards to come out or jst buy a mid-range card then upgrade ?

i personally don't think dx10 will come into full effect for a while...it all depends on what you want to do..sure it would be better to wait and upgrade then if you can stand a mid range card for the time being but if it was me personally i would just go with a high end card now

yea but you gotta take into consideration dx10's release then games that take full use of dx10 have to be released to me its a long wait

yea, personally i don't think you need anything special to play games today. a DX9 card will process DX10 graphics... just not as quickly. if you've got something that'll play games on medium quality right now, then i'd say go for it. my 7800gt will do fine since i couldn't sell my rig with it, because they wanted the 7900gtx with it. i figure ill end up needing to upgrade for DX10 sooner or later anyways, plus the 7800gt plays all my games on high as it is... only thing it has trouble with is like AA which i don't switch on anyways... my 7900gtx seemed to have just as much trouble with it. i think im going to go with ATI next time i upgrade my video card. the FSAA HDR issues really bothered me. im not even going to bother with an SLI motherboard this time around.

ATI's avivo video converter... and the fact that their cards supports HDR and FSAA at the same time... really got me to choose ATI again. i'll probably wait for DX10 support... and maybe even just wait a few months afterward to see how the technology fairs. my 7800gt is fine for now though.

Well whats your current card right now?
I have an x800 Pro which is more than enough power to play games and I'm gonna wait for DX10 to come out before getting a new one.
If you have some crappy low-end card then by all means get one now.
If you dont have a card then get one now, DX10 is prolly the largest change ever in the DX engine but you will still be able to play DX10 games, just using DX9 features (many games now allow you to use DX8 shaders instead of DX9 for the sake of performance gain, it will prolly be the same with DX10).

hard to say about crysis...even if it does use full dx10 there's gonna be an option to use dx9 within the game and to be honest i don't think there's gonna be much of a difference from how dx9 and 10 look from each other. You've seen trailers and actual ingame footage of crysis that has to be tested on dx9 since obviously dx10 isn't released yet

True there arent any dx10 gfx cards released but dx10 itself is downloadable, its a pre-release SDK but it does include Direct3D 10......

Since its not fully created, they cant test it. But this is what they realisitically think DX10 (Bottom) will look like, compared to DX9 (Top):

It's not DX10, it's the SDK. Which is for developers to create software for DX10.

The only thing different bewtween those pictures that i can see is the reflection in the waters. If that is all the difference then i would say upgrading to directX10 would not be worth it unless there are more differences coming or is there something that i am not seeing in that picture.

I read an article today on DirectX 10. The main problem with DirectX 9 now is that it puts too much stress on the cpu..once you have over 500 objects in a scene you can no longer handle the processed image. DirectX 10 is expected to increase that by 20-40% and in the end its expected to be 6 TIMES better than DirectX9. Also Crysis will use DirectX 10 fully and will only be avaliable on Windows Vista. LET ME REIDERATE, " DIRECTX 10 WILL ONLY WORK ON DIRECTX 10 VIDEO CARDS AND ONLY ON WIDNOWS VISTA......IT WILL NOT BE AVLIABLE FOR ANY VIDEO CARD ON THE MARKET NOW AND WILL NEVER BE ON WINDOWS XP.

Thats because the artist only changed that (and the sky).

lol so DX10 will even put that nasty foam on the water? honestly the sky in the dx10 shot looks like the sky in flight sim 2004 which obviously only uses dx9..i'll admit the water looks good but unlikely it'll look like that when its released...besides from 10k feet the ground always looks really good ;)

then you must not have very good eyes. WOW the light was better in the sky... the water was much more realistic.. the mountain looked real rather than like a painting... SHEESH im definitely waiting to upgrade.
i CANT WAIT. those graphics look AMAZING. thank you for showing me that goeff.
btw i think the guy will take my 7800gt instead of my 7900gtx.. for $950 instead of $1100 lol

you do realize thats just an SDK stillshot right? the actual game won't be able to handle those kinds of graphics its just showing what its capable of think about all that stuff animated plus the rest of the stuff for the game you'll have like 10 fps tops

I just went back and noticed the sky. I usually dont see everything the first time in a picture it will take me a few times to see everything.
