X1800 GT0, Worth It?

Well, I'm looking into getting a new graphics card since my 6800 GS seem to have fried after a few months of use from being brand new, and I have been looking at the following card:

HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X1800 GTO TURBO ICEQ3 SILENT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-054-HT)

This is priced around about £138 inc. VAT. Is it worth it? I'm limited on budget and this kind of meets the budget limit but I have no idea if this particular card is any good. I had the Saphire verson of the x1800 gto and that card performed quite well, plus this excalibur one is clocked faster due to the bigger and better cooling system on it.

Extra info:

- Powered by ATI Radeon X1800GTO - 520MHz (BIOS)
- 256MB-256bit 8 channel GDDR3 memory - 1GHz(BIOS)
- 12 Pixel shader processor
- 8 Vertex shader processor
- 8 Geometry Pipelines
- Ultra-threaded SM 3.0 Engine
- 512-bit Ring-bus
- ATI Avivo™

The card:

It's a tad annoying that it takes two slots up but I guess for it to be clocked faster it needs the bigger cooling. It's not a problem just a little annoying.

Any comments on this would be greatly appreciated.

i actually considered this card before getting my 1800xt (found a nice price) this card should perform very nicely compared to a 6800 GS

im not sure what your budget is or the prices of these cards in england but you should look into an x850xt as well might be a tad cheaper than an x1800

Thanks for the replies. Is the X850xt a better card than the one I'm currently looking at?

the x850xt is the better card....as an example

half life 2
the x1800 GTO on 1024 x 768 res with 4xAA and 8xAF gets 93 FPS the x850xt gets 116 FPS..thats a considerable amount better

I did check some reviews on these two cards benchmarked against one another but from what I remember they both seemed pretty equal with some exceptions such as Half Life 2 for the x850 and I think it might have been Fear or Doom for the x1800. Let me take a look as to how much the x850 is.

Get 7600GT, it is a little bit worser that X1800GTO, but it is much cheaper, also, in Doom3 and FEAR 7600GT beats X1800GTO.

And don't get X850XT because it doesn't support SM3.0

To be honest I'm not really that fussed paying that little bit extra for a card that's only slightly better, I'm a sucker for that little extra performance :p.. I think i'll buy the X1800 GT0 to be honest. I've used one before and to be honest my machine benchmarked quite well with it on 3DMark.

Ya it looks like a pretty good card, but the x850xt was an incredible card, but HIS cards are very good, and if its the turbo version its even better, don't know if they have the turbo version on the newer cards, but normally HIS overclock very nicely, and it saves you some extra money since you get a free arctic cooler on it.

I was thinking about upping it a couple of quid more and getting the 1800XT, but the only one available for the price range I have is a power color one and to be honest, after looking at the clock readings of it and seeing the cooler on it, I don't think I'll bother. Plus I heard that power color was a real cheap not so good manufacturer for cards?
