im think i might sell my gfx card and get a nvidia one to go SLI. but im not sure what nvidia card to get. i want one that is the same or a little bit better then the ATI X800XT.

thanks

i was just thinking, cause the video card i bought, was faulty, so they are giving me a refund or replacement. and i was wondering if i should get a refund and get a nvdia card so that later on i can go SLI.

how do the 7800 series compare to the X800XT?? or how bout the X1900GT by Gecube??

thanks

tYou haven't told me what is your budget ?

7800GT is much better than X800XT, but 7900GT is more better.
Heres some good priced 7900GT

7900GT KO

7900GT KO Superclocked

Edit: i found a 512MB version of 7900GT here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130034

Also i forgot to tell you that i don't recommend to go Sli, because one 7900GT can run current games at max setting, and G80 (geforce 8) is coming soon, so i recommend that you buy one card and then later you can sell your card and buy G80 card when it comes out.

i wouldn't sli low or medium end cards...and as said before sli is really only effective with resolutions of 1600 x 1200 for that you need a pretty big monitor but with 2 7600 GT's running in sli i don't think you'll be too happyw ith the performance the x1900 would be a better choice or the 7900

actually if you buy the 7900 you can step up and send it back to nvidia for the newer card and just pay the difference

does your card beat a 7900GT? does the 7900GT allow you to have hdr or AA? i was looking at running a widescreen resolution, maybe this 1280x800

No it doesnt, but my card was about $140 cheaper than a 7900GT.

And no, nVidia cards can't run both.

I can run both AA and HDR at the same time with my nVidia card in HL2, but in oblivion i can't run them both.

You can have them set, but it wont render both of them.

No you are wrong. nvidia cards can render both in HL2.
There are defferent types of HDR, and Nvidia 6+ cards can use AA with certain types of HDR .In HL2 the HDR implementation doesn't use floating-point texture blends, which means that both ATI and NVIDIA cards can do both HDR and AA at the same time.

You can not use the full HDR effect with nvidia cards in combination with AA. However some games allow the blooming effect.

The reason is because nVidia cards do not physically support FP16 blending + AA in the framebuffer, it is a hardware thing they just don't have.
