I'm looking for a cheap laptop, around $650. I want it for general use, it may or may not be my main computer, I don't really know yet. Basically, I just need wi-fi capability and 60gb+ harddrive, 512mb+ ram.
The best one I've seen so far is from newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834228001), but I don't really want the nascar stuff all over.
The most important feature I'd like is a large screen.
What is the best deal I can get?

hi,

i was looking on the Dell website and you can get the inspiron B130 for $676 with -

15.4' screen
60GB hardrive
512MB RAM
built in wireless

take a look at it here:

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=B130RFC1&s=dhs

and if you wanted to spend a little more (which if you could i would reccommened ) you can add a whole host of options, ranging from larger HDD,more RAM,better battery, even carrying cases and printer upgrades etc.

also have you considered second hand or refurbished laptops ?
you can pickup some very good bargains.

Wow, that looks really great, and I'd love to get it...but I've heard terrible things about dell. Second hand laptops are fine, I was checking ebay, but it's really hard to find something that I need, because I'm open to many options.
Thank you very much =D

I was looking around some more, and I found what I think is a great laptop at costco. http://www.costco.com/CTO/HPConfigu...570&whse=BC&topnav=&browse=&s=1&model=EX203AV
Is this worth it? Or are the dell/newegg offers better?

Edit: here are all of the best offers I've found. I want one that is not amazing, but will last me a long time. Which one is the best for the price offered?

Which would be the best?

that HP laptop looks very nice.

if i were after a laptop in that price range i would definetly choose a Dell,
but really you should choose what suits you. I mean HP laptops are also very good.

These days there aren't many bad laptops around.

Dell laptop explodes during conference. Didn't you read about that news???

i did, but i know a few people who have owned desktops and notebooks from Dell and none of them have ever exploded. just that one incident (or a few complaints from people) would definetly not put me off buying a Dell computer. I use a Dell desktop for work and that runs perfectly. I also used to own a Dell notebook a few years back but sold it due to me upgrading, and again it was a very good computer and ran very well.

Dell desktops are good but the laptops batteries. Of course dell is good... It is cheap also. :-)

i agree with you anti_spy that Dell laptop batteries are sometimes dodgy, on my old Dell laptop the battery had to be replaced. But for the price of a Dell laptop and the spec of them its worth taking a (small) risk. As with any online computer shop (Time, Tiny, etc) you always take a risk, and that risk might be your computer being damaged in the post, being lost in the post, the thought that you might have to fart around sending it back to Dell if its broke or they have sent the wrong model etc.

But for the really cheap prices of Dell computers its worth it :-)
