mp3 with storage drive

I am in the market for a removable storage drive with an MP3 player. I want the type of drive that plugs into a USB port, and acts as an additional storage drive. I want the drag and drop feature to move any type of files (from Word, to full databases to whatever) to the removable drive. I don't want to have to mess with cables to transfer to the device, and from the device to another machine.

I also want an MP3 player included because it will make the unit more useful.

I am not completely sure what to look for in the search engines, and boy is enough units for sell to have me confused. The MP3 doesn't have to hold all the songs in the world, but the file storage must be of a pretty good size because of my homework requirements.

Can anyone please explain to me what to look for? Maybe include a link to a device that fits what I have described above. Your opinons on battery type will be appreciated, too.

The amount of storage capacity on the thing will be shared by the mp3 part and the external drive part, so if you've got a 512MB player, with 256MB of documents, you'll only have 256MB of space for music. And in my experience, mp3 players that plug into a USB port for music transfer can automatically be used as normal document storage, as would a floppy disk or hard drive.

Something like this would be suitable, and charges very quickly. The real question is how much storage you want, because prices can rise sharply for double the capacity. If you're just wanting to store a few documents, then 512MB would be fine. Of course if you fill the thing with music, it'd limit the space available for documents.

Regarding the link you included for the Walkman: Am I correct that the end has a cap that comes off to reveal the plug for the USB port on my laptop? I can plug it in, drag and drop the files and documents, as well as the MP3 files I will want to listen to.

The reason I want a really clear understanding is that I will need to carry alot of application and database data between home, work and school. The MP3 is a nice to have because I will always be carrying the device with me. I know price is a big consideration for the size I am investing in, and really don't want to be disappointed with what I end up buying. VOX would be nice, too. See, I want it all.

Yes that's right. If you look below the main picture, there's a link that says 'more images'. That'll show you what it looks like.

Correct. With many models of mp3 player, there's a special folder within which all the music resides. The mp3 player looks for this folder to compile its playlists. If that's the case, you'd need to make sure you retain this folder where it is to listen to mp3's. But all that'd be explained in the instruction manual.

If you're mainly going to be using the player as removable storage, then all it's a case of doing is finding the cheapest for the amount of storage you want (by shopping around), as flash storage is basically the same, regardless of what model you buy. Just make sure the one you buy is USB 2.0, not USB 1.0.
