I've been looking around for a good crt monitor online and it seems that CRTs have long ago fallen away in favor of LCDs. Could anyone direct me to a good place with a nice 2048 x 1536+ monitor?

So far I've found this, but feel like I can do better (like non-refurbished, and a bigger viewable area, and black housing to match the computer):

crt's are rather large as well, with a 21" you will need at least 2 feet of desk space behind the monitor

The HP P1230 monitor is one hell of a display; you can run that monitor at a maximum resolution of 2048x1536 @ 70Hz. The monitor comes with very useful controls (which are too many to list). Also that display came in at #3 on PC World 2004 best monitor’s list and the casing is black and silver.

Keep in mind! If your going to use it for looking at text, light graphic work or web design then just get a LCD. That monitor is really met for CAD design, gaming or photography work. And like spamdos said, your going to need a lot of desk space. Also 20" viewable is the maximum your going to get on a 22" CRT monitor. Be sure your getting a CRT monitor because you need it!

I can send you a link to a website (send me a message if your still interested) where you can buy a brand new HP P1230 monitor for about $250 (shipping should be about another $50). I bought that monitor brand new about 4 months ago and I don't regret getting it. Believe me, she won’t let you down.

For $300 you can get a 20" LCD. Why would you get a CRT?

As far as I know, and I haven't checked in a while, I can still buy used 22" NEC CRTs from one of my suppliers. They are under $200 CAD, which should be about $50 USD.. lol :P If you're interested I can look into it for you. They might even drop ship. They are very nice monitors. I sold one to my wife's parents (at cost mind you, but they love it).
