Two Monitors ?

How exactly does having two monitors hooked up to the same computer work? Can you do to things at once, since theres two monitors? Or how does it work?

most graphics card have two connectors and you can add a second monitor.
This monitor can
a) Be a mirror of the first
b) Be an increased version of you desktop, so basically you have 2 desktops next to each other, if your mouse is on the left screen and you move it to the far right then it will move past the left screen and onto the right screen

usually its to run multiple things at once..........for example, if you were IMing a bunch of people, but also playing a game, you wouldnt have to minimize the game because you could have them on two different desktops.

just imagine having a second monitor as basically having a really really widescreen monitor.

So say if i was using one for IMing and the other for a game, would i have to move the mouse all the way over to the next screen to use it on the other monitor? Same with using the keyboard. I'm kinda confused on how you'd use the mouse and keyboard. How would you know what monitor there controlling?

Would your graphic card perform as well since its displaying stuff on two monitors at once?

Would it make the computer slower, or would it be equal to running the same amount of programs on one monitor as far as computer usage goes?

i'm doing that now with two monitors, i'm actually playing quake 4 right now, with settings on low and getting 155fps, so no, there is no hit in performance, unless your cpu is total crap, which mine is not :) and you can always control where you are typing, just by pointing your mouse at the spot you want to input some data into, then typing. :D but really, having, say, two 15" screens is like having one HUGE 30'incher.... :) really worth it if possible.http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.asp?Image=14%2D102%2D608%2D01%2Ejpg%2C14%2D102%2D608%2D02%2Ejpg%2C14%2D102%2D608%2D03%2Ejpg%2C14%2D102%2D608%2D04%2Ejpg&CurImage=14%2D102%2D608%2D01%2Ejpg&Description=SAPPHIRE+100131+Radeon+X800GTO+256MB+GDDR3+AGP+4X%2F8X+Video+Card+%2D+OEM this is what the end of the video card should look like, with the normal connector being your main screen, on which you could play games, and the second connector, (which usually comes with an adapter,to make it the same as the first connector,) to do anything else. one thing about playing games tho, you have to ctrl/alt/del to use your regular mouse. (like so you aren't trying to aim at a guy's head and your mouse suddenly dissapears into the second screen)

no, your mouse instantly goes into the other monitor when it hits the border of the screen.

Whenever i dual monitored, and i was in a game and IMing on one screen,if i went to the IM,my game would minimize..dunno if the non minimization thing is true.

That's what happens, unless you find some kind of piece of software that disables that, plus the mouse doesn't go to the 2nd monitor if I play a game and try to move the mouse pointer to the 2nd monitor.

ok think of it like this
Take you current screen you have
Imagine that it is twice as wide as it currently is
now just because it is twice as wide as it currently is doesnt pose any problems, the mouse and keyboard still work exactly the same as normal
Now (continue imagining the same wide screen) but now draw an imaginary black line straight down the middle of this twice-as-wide-screen. The screen is still the same, its still works the same but now you have a black line in the middle splitting it into 2 halves

Well that black line is actually the border between the 2 screens in a dual display. Which ever window is active will recieve keyboard inputs just tlike on a single display.
