External power supplies

Are there any good external PSUs for PCs?

There's one slim Asus barebones PC that uses one.
PC is only 2 inches thick!

Well...you're not being very clear here... Are you trying to get an external power supply for a standard PC or some slim case? I'm pretty sure those external power supplies for slim cases are basically laptop power supplies, maybe something a bit more powerful.

What's your plan? You can't use them without the case, at least the ones I've seen. They don't have all the same connections on them as a typcial ATX would.

Too bad Asus doesn't have one just like that for Intel CPUs.
Also, using barebones just isn't the same as building it from ground up.

The case is very nice. Not real sure why Asus doesn't sell just the cases.
I like the dual thin heatsink/fans, but the case would have to accept a Micro ATX board. I would take no less. I have seen very thin hard drives and dvd drives, so what's the problem?

The reason they probably don't just sell cases is that many are rather propriatary inside. They might have to do some odd things with the motherboard to make it fit right...

I still don't totally understand what you wish to do. Are you planning on making your own and simply wanted a powre supply for the case? Keep looking, I'm sure you'll find an intel based barebones similar to that one... We had one at work that I manged to get one day, but some "tech" had already messed it up...

Oh, a good board to look into for such system's is the via micro-ITX and nano-ITX. Those things will fit into anything

My original intent was to build the smallest PC possible.
The problem with building a custom case is that the power supply, no matter how small, will still be too big. An external power supply might be an option.
As for the ITX boards, newegg doesn't carry them. Some micro ATX boards are only 9.6 x 7.6, so I can't imagine how much smaller an ITX one could be.
