This is probably the most retarded question but how do you disconnect SATA cables? I tried pushing on the tab and pulling but I ended up pulling the socket right off the mobo. I also can't disconnect the SATA cable from my HDD either.

Jutst pull them out in a straight motion. Can sometimes be very tight fit. unless somehow your have melted to the connection?:(
 
Actually, I had the same problem with a Compaq, and ended breaking the tabs. I think that Cmopaq does not give you good cables.
