Preparing a used laptop for sale

I have an older IBM Thinkpad 600 that I am about to sell and would like to see if maybe I have overlooked anything. Its got Windows 2000 professional in it, I deleted all of the programs I had on it like Aol, The Sims, etc., I've deleted all the cookies and saved passwords, I've defregged the hd, and maybe a few other things. Anything else I should look into to protect my identity? The only thing that worries me is that Windows is registered to my full name(if this laptop gets into the wrong hands, can they come after me?)

BTW, I got this computer second hand about 2 years ago so I don't have an restore cd's nor system back-ups.

My theory is this:
If somebody wanted to kill you, they wouldn't care who you are
If somebody knows your name, they can't find out your credit card number
If somebody knows where you live, they won't rape you.
As long as you didn't enter your credit card anywhere besides the internet (such as into programs), nobody can do anything. They may find out your name, but if they bought it from you, they probably would already know it.

Ok.. I'll tell it like it is. First of all it is illegal to sell that laptop with an OS on it unless you give him the disk and license. Second, if you give that laptop to me I will retrieve every file you have deleted off of it since you owned it. :)

Well THATS a retarded law. If someone tried to sell me a computer with no OS, I'd probly tell them to go f*ck themselves.

As for potential identity theft (or whatever they can do with your name), sell it to someone who can't tell you what formatting means.

Or you could be an asshole and sell it totally formatted. If the person knows how to undelete your files, then you can probably kick their ass.

lol You really do that? May I ask why and what is the point?

You should just reformat it, give the buyer the disk and let them install it. If you reformat you wouldn't have to worry about any lost information.

I don't do it, no. I have better things to do. lol. But I can, that is the thing. I have the tools here to do it. The advantage of it is that you can see what kind of person the seller was. Just for interest's sake, if you were that kind of person (which I'm not).
