Athlon Upgrade To P4?

Hello, new to the forum.

I have a 2.17 GHz, HP Pavilion AMD Athlon 3000+. I need some help with a couple of questions:

1. I want to upgrade to a new CPU, preferably an Intel P4, 2.6 GHz. Is this possible with my computer?

2. What is the Pentium version of the Athlon 3000.....Pentium 3?

Thanks for all the help.

Sorry....

I want to run a game that requires a P3 and 2.2 GHz so I'm trying to configure or upgrade my system to run the game. That's why I was wondering which Pentium version is comparable to the Athlon 3000+ (?) and maybe upgrade my Athlon to equal a P3 if necessary. I'm a hardware dummy so I'll have to learn more about overclocking if that will do the trick.

If the game that you want to play only needs a P3 at 2.2 GHz then that AMD should be more than enough. What is the game you want to play and do you have any links to the PC you have?

The game I wanna play is Company Of Heroes by THQ. It comes out Sept 14. My system is two years old and I don't know of any links. It is a HP Pavilion.

If its a Athlon XP 3000 it is a socket A, Will smoke a Pentium III, suppost to be equal to a Pentium 4 3.0ghz. but its more in line with a Pentium 4 2.8ghz.

That CPU is plenty fast. You cant upgrade from a Athlon to a P4 (or the AMD64 series) Since you say you ave a HP I am guessing yout video card is probably going to be the biggest bottleneck.

If you want to play that game and any others, a Athlon 64 CPU would be a better choice but thats an entirely different subject

First of all you have a AMD and HP so you cant upgrade your CPU cause Pentium 4's use different socket types. And second of all if you get the pentium 4 you will be downgrading in performance for gaming not upgrading. If you cant play a certain game on your computer then you might have to upgrade your ram or you Videocard.

Well, I was wrong. The game requires a 2.2 GHz Pentium 4 or equivalent.

I have a Athlon XP 3000+ , 2.17 GHz. I have the required RAM and video card. Do you think I can run the game? Thanks...

Yes, The Athlon XP 3000 was about the same as a Pentiun 2.8ghz.
