Why is it that some sites i go on like Windows Game advisor says that my cpu is a AMD Athlon(tm) XP/MP/4 2000MHz when infact its a Sempron?

I know the Sempron processor is basicly a Athlon Xp but im jus courius to why the sites thinks its an athlon?

Is it realy an Athlon but they changed the name or renemed it?

When you are on the gaming sites their utilities are more or less detecting the cpu speed only and assuming you are running a newer model. The program automatically assigns a make and model number apparently. The game advisors simply let you know if your cpu can support a certain game or games. Those are far from accurate benchmark programs.
 
And no, Semprons are not Athlon XP's becouse Semprons are based on Throughbred 128/256KB L2 cache cores while Athlon XP's (newer ones) are based on Thorton and Barton (512KB) cores (Thorton is basicly a Barton with half the L2 cache disabled), older Athlon XP's have Throughbred B and A cores.

I feel so stupid,I thought they were basicly the same:D

The one barton model cpu that was popular at the time was the XP2500+ for OCing. That roughly caught right upto the 3000+ or 3200+. The Semprons were the high enders there however. Gee? Only a few 3200+s had unlocked multipliers not mine. :( I should be :mad: at AMD but I'm not.

I did it on my Athlon XP 2200+ (thorton core), unlocked multiplier + unlocked extra 256KB of L2 cache, the only difference is the PCB, everthing else is the same, was able to push it to 3200+ speeds, it was even being reported as 3200+, 11x200

With the exception of only a few batches the 3200+ was one model that was quite locked up there. I was able to get it to move just a little to see the 3400+ 2.3ghz seen on the post screen. If I backed the memory timings down I would then see the 2500+ 1.8ghz at post. The 3200+ was simply the OCed version of the 2500+ Barton cored cpu.
 
OHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I got that Athlon XP 3200+ OC to 2.35GHz TOO!! Never OC to 2.4GHz.... My computer got an owwy. But I got a socket A. And ya know what, I had a Sempron also and it did that too. Hay, by that way, what % of the computers are better than your, I go on Game Adviser too.
