lcd monitor??

is it sometimes common for a new lcd monitor to come out of the box with say 1 dead pixel on the screen? i just purchased an acer 17" lcd monitor and it came with 1 small green dead pixel towards the center of the screen. is this situation common or not?
 
yea its pretty common.. i know newegg has a 9 dead pixels policy, where if its less than 9 then it isn't covered... but if you bought if from circuit city or something they normally give you 14-30 days to bring it back... thats what i did, and my monitor comes with its own 3 yr. limited warranty from acer... so i saved the reciept and the warranty booklet that came with it. just make some calls and investigate it.
i dont know how common it is exactly... but it can happen quite easily.
 
It's pretty common and it sounds like a stuck pixel if it just stays green. You could probably take it back with no problems, but if you want to send it to the manufacturer to fix it you won't be able to. Most companies will only honor your warranty if you have a certain amount of dead pixels. I think for my LCD it was 18 or more dead pixels...Anyways, if it really bothers you just take it back to the store, if you ordered it online it may be a little harder...
 
LCD's are notorious for dead/lazy pixles. My laptop now has something like 1 dead pixel and about 4 lazy pixels.

There's a video out there that flashes many colors very fast that's suppose to help correct such problems. Sometimes it works, sometimes it makes things worse! Seeing as you're screen's new, I'd see about exchanging it ASAP.
 
Common. I have 3 on an expensive LCD. I bought it at Circuit City, which I think may be handling their stuff very rough. I have bought other items from them to confirm this and would never buy from them again.

For what it's worth, I can only see the dead pixels on a completely black screen about 6 inches away. They are practically invisible.
 
well, circuit city doesnt make the product lol... the quality... or low quality of a product... can only be blamed on the manufacturer...
circuit city was only the retailer. my acer monitor is great, amazing brightness, good 75hz 1280x1024 res and cheap at $199... yes its a 19"
8ms response, but i don't notice really. lol

Whats a lazy pixel?

I think some companies check for dead pixels before they ship them out. I had a Norcent LCD with a dead pixel, wasn't that annoying, you get used to it. I've had 2 BenQ LCD's and my friend has one, and theres no dead pixels at all. If you do end up taking back the Acer, try a BenQ one, I've been happy with them. My first BenQ LCD (17") had this weird issue where it would turn itself off, but I sent it back to BenQ, and they sent me a new 19" screen! Haven't had any problems since.

yeah i powered on my BenQ right out of the box and it gives a blue screen and theres no dead pixels at all or from wat i see
 
If it's a stuck pixel, sometimes you can just get rid of it by getting something small and blunt so that it doesn't mess up your screen. Then press it firmly on the stuck pixel and keep it there while turning on the monitor.
