Cathodes, Why do they never work!!!!!!!!

Had 4 sets of cathodes now!!


4 x Cooler Master Sound activated Cathodes.
Used them for around a month and had invertor trouble, one end of the tube had gone and was extremely irritating.

1 x Akasa Cathode.
Exactly the same problem as above ^^^^

2 AC Ryan Catodes.
Had them for a few days running fine on my Jeantech PSU.
That thing died:( :mad: so I got a new Tagan, 48A Quad Rail, 600W, best I could afford.

Get this thing going and about a few hours later I get a funny smell coming from my case, wasn't a few days later till I thought anything of it, decided to open my system up for a few watercooling checks when I fould that my Cathode was hanging down from the top of the case half bent with black burn marks on either end.

Took these things out and opened up the invertor box up to have a look what was going on, one of the capacitor type things have totally melted onto the board and started melting the actual invertor box!

Got the things running later that day with an old PSU to see what was happening and the invertor started smoking:mad:

Not having much luck with Cathodes ever since I first bought some.

Have seen other people, theres last for like 6 months or more with absolutley no problems.

I am stumped on why they keep going wrong!

Anyone else had bad cathode experiences?!
 
My cathodes are just fine, they've probably been running at least 10 months with no problems. I have 3 sets of cold cathodes, red, blue and UV. Guess you're just having bad luck.
 
Seems like your having about as much luck with your cathodes as I am with graphis cards, in fact, my whole system.
 
I got some cheap brandless 5 bucks dual 12" cathode from China. Been running them for about 13 months now and one of the tube is slowly dying. But hey, what can ya expect from 5 bucks cathodes anyways.
 
Yup, I had a pair of White 12" Cathodes. After about 1 day I smelt the scent of what seemed like burning hair. The next day, one of the Cathodes was flickering, so I adjusted the connector in the invertor where they both go into eachother, and the plastic was busy melting away! I burnt my hand and had melted plastic on the tips of my fingers.

I really liked them though, even if they only worked for one day. Because the were white, they really helped me when I was working in my PC. I could trun them on, and they'd work perfect as a source of light.
 
Well these stories have certainly put me off ever using Cathodes in the near future that's for sure :).

Haha! I think the fact is with Cathodes, they are so temperemental that they will break very easily. I suppose you just have to buy from good brands which have a good reputation for making quality cathodes made to last.
