Recovering downloaded files?

Sometimes I download a file and when it’s done I hit cancel. Well where do the files go? Because I want them back. I know they were not deleted.

Are yo using a third party application to do your downloads? If so, it might be in that programs parent directory.

No, I am just using the Windows download thing like everyone else.

Ok, well it could be of one or two things. It could be set to "open" instead of "save as" when you download it. Or, the download location is in a place where you dont know, meaning it has been set to a location. Did you check the temp folder as described by Rip_Uk?

Yes I clicked open. However even when you click open it is still downloaded to your hard drive. You just dont choose the loacation. But its still on the hard drive.
