Crash when loading game

I recently installed the most up to date driver for my geforce 6600 but now I cannot load counter strike, it goes so far then the screen goes black and crashes and has to be turned off with task manager (which says it is still running ) . Used registry mechanic, norton utilities and antivirus all of which say after repairs it was ok and everything on the computer says the graphics card is functioning properly.

Asrock motherboard
2G Coirsair RAM
80g hard drive
Windows XP

Roll back the driver. That is the single biggest reason why I hate nVIDIA cards. Their drivers suck. They fix one game just to break three others.

See if that works. If not we'll have to try something else.
 
Went back to supplied driver but this didn't work either the problem started when I unistalled the original driver to install the new one.
Could uninstalling the original driver have affected anything else? I cant do a system restore because it wont give me an earlier date than today.
 
i hate ATI drivers more than Nvidia,i installed from the supplied cd and i got an error in the middle of the driver install..lol
 
Used the "Driver pro cleaner" and reinstalled nvidia drivers, went in fine but games will still not load
 
Hate to say it, but since you have changed the drivers so much you might just need to reinstall the game. I have installed new drivers and had games do the same thing! fooled with drivers for hours, just needed to uninstall and reinstall the game!
 
Can you give a list of games you're having problems with and any error messages or symptoms ie crash to desktop.

Is this happening in all games or just some?
 
i've been saying this alot lately it seems but try to run it windows 98 compatibility....right click the shortcut to CS and click properties and set it from there
 
Reinstalled games counter strike and Halo to check an old game and niether work. Did "dxdiag" and it says "no errors found" in all catagories.
When loading it loads so far and then the screen goes black and I have to use task manager to close it.

did u try the windows 98 compatibility? F.E.A.R did this to me the exact same thing loaded a solid black screen and nothing more i had to exit with cntrl alt delete but that fixed it

I think the problem there is your monitor, i have an old monitor that functions the same as that you describe it cant play games with good graphics only display black sreen.
