DAMN! sorry for the language, but i have one of those /\ that decided to die on me a few months ago. I have not tried to do anything, other than finding it every once in a while, slapping in an AA, and seeing if it will start up... Earlier, i saw it laying on my bed again, and i just had to try again. I put in a good AA, it didnt work, so i finally got the guts to take it apart. I took off the cover (thats all, just a few screws out) while not disturbing any of the silicon. I slapped that battery in again... it turned on and started playing!!! halleluya! so i rushed upstairs and hooked it up to my computer. It connected, windows recognized it, didnt install the software (it never did, there is an iriver program you have to use) so i opened up the iriver Music Manager, it didnt show up...i messed around a while, didnt unplug it or anything, then i did, it turned off (the old screwed up way, from right before it died). I couldnt get it to start up again. I have for a few moments, when i took all the screws that i could possibly find out, and put the battery in (it started up kinda screwily, then shut down promptly). I was wondering... there is a small back-up battery (which i liken to the battery on the mobo) that keeps the flash stuff going without the AA. Could all the trouble be because of a dead or very low backup? Before it died, i had lots of software problems, it would shut down, or freeze, stuff like that. I updated and reformatted it a few times, then it died. Could i just get a new little button cell and be back to the old days?
Sorry for the long post,
