E6300 or 4800+ ?

i know about the whole thing
but i'm not sure about this one
E6300 is not included in toms benchs
so what do you guys think ?

I would get the E6300 it is way more overclockable and cheaper then the 4800+ and you should be able to get the E6300 to 3GHz which then it will be alot better then the 4800+.
 
if overclocking isn't an option, the 4800+ is faster... the core 2 duo performs about 25% better in most benchmarks, and even less than 25% in some (per clock of course)
so, 1.86ghz *1.25 = 2.325ghz... the 4800+ is at 2.4ghz.
its not exact, but its probably the best thing youve got to go on. its not perfect either, because sometimes the athlon 64 does actually perform the same as the core 2 duo (per clock) in some apps...
either proc is great, and i'd probably choose the e6300 just because it runs so cool anyways...
i mean people dont have fans on them a lot of the time, just because it doesnt even need it.

How hot do they run? Iv never heard of new cpus not needing a fan. Though i have ran my old P4 without a fan before, it didnt get too hot. It only got hot when i didnt snap the heatsink down all the way lol. over 72c, windows kept crashing and i didnt know why till i checked the temps and relized my P4 was about to kick the bucket lol.
 
THe 4800+, if you remember, was the best dual core (other than the FX-60) for a while... it hasnt diminished in CPU power, just in the ranks. And if you cant get anything above the 6300, it will still kick ass.
 
yea, it runs very cool. as i said you don't need a fan for it. it performs a little worse than the 4800+, though still very good for its clockspeed. its 65nm, which is part of what makes it run so cool. the rest is just in architecture. plus, its got an extremely low voltage of .85V or something like that. the 4800+ is like 1.25-1.35V depending on which 4800+ you get... i think theres like an energy efficient one and a regular one....
as for how hot it runs, i couldn't tell you. it depends on what cooler you go with, for instance, even as a passive cooler im sure the big typhoon would perform much better than the stock cooler without a fan. plus, each proc will have slightly different temps normally within 5-10C on stock settings, and it also depends on what type of case fans you have as well...
plus, thermal diodes on the motherboard that measure temps are always off by 5-10C but i'd say asus, or gigabyte would be the most accurate. gigabyte because ive had one before, and asus because of their reputation.

Does your friend already have an AMD setup? Because if he doesn't we are comparing Apples and Oranges, with the X2 4800+ at $289 and the E6300 at $185
 
Get the E6300,you save money and at stock speeds,the 4800+ hardly beats it out for something worth 100 dollars more,i'd save the 100 dollars and buy something else...maybe an E6400...since its closer to the 4800+ price range and out performs it,or spend it on more ram or a better video card.
