intel vs amd

Right now Intel is better but that will change in a few months probably. If you are building a computer now i would go with Intel.

well im not building it now...i have no money :P i just got a job today and im gonna be getting 6.60/hr...i can get 22hrs a week...so it might be about 2 months till i have enough money to build a good computer but im just lookin right now to plan the basics of it...

Intel is not better. C2D is better. AMD is still better overall.

No, the C2D is better than anything else for gaming, provided that you have at least $600 to spend.

I said Intel is better right now and C2D is Intels processor. I know AMD is a overall better company cause they overall have had better processors then Intel but as i said earlier i said right now but that will soon change. You dont have to spend $600 you can get the E6300 and overclock it and it will be better then all the amds processors.

right now the core 2 duo is better. its more overclockable, and it performs better per clock... which, even if you aren't overclocking, would also make the thing run much cooler as well.

Currently the Intel Core 2 duo is better, however they are benching it against 2 year old AMD technology. The new AM2 chips from AMD are just like the athlon xps except they have ddr two memory controllers in them.

Just wait until the new AMDs come out and the blow the hell out of the intels.

Right now the newest intels beat the AMDs, but they don't beat them in every aspect, and in every way, or by a land slide or anything like that.

I mean if intel came out with a brand new technology that didn't out perform 2yr old AMD technology, I would probably never buy an intel product again.

The cost difference between an AMD build and a C2D is between 30 and 80 dollars. AX2 3800 is 150, and a decent board is 100, with a damn good board being 150. DDR2 will be used on both so it doesn't really matter. C2D E6300 is 183, and a DS3 is 150 which is a damn good board itself. A great board ends up in the 200 dollar range which is where the 30-80 part comes into play. I see 333 dollars as being perfect acceptable for the ability to OC (with the stock cooler) the C2D to defeat the top AMD offerings on stock core voltage.

We're beating a dead horse here though. With the C2D prices leveling off, it has become worth it to go Intel not only performance-wise, but also economics of price/performance as well.

I agree that we are comparing different technologies though, with comparing an advanced 65nm offering to a somewhat aged 90nm offering. That doesn't stop the fact that Intel has crushed the historic lead AMD has had, as well as its image of workstation/graphics/video editing-only processing.

I don't see how a person can even CONSIDER AMD in the dual core arena.

Even with the new Conroe, i still have to be an AMD man. They made some outstanding CPUs in the past, and still are, but Intel just got ahead of them this year. I think Intel is finally relizing that the higher the core speed doesnt mean its better........lol.

and if we talk opteron vs xeon, opteron whoops it stupid.

Like I said, ya intel's new chips are nice. I have played with some mac books and mac pro desktops at work with the newest intel chips, and I have played around with a new HP that has a core 2 duo in it.

Yeah its fast, but for normal use, and even in like photoshop its not kicking my AMD 3400's ass that I have at home, its still comparable in speed.

I like intels mobile chips, but I like AMDs dsektop/server products. I think when AMDs next gen chip comes out (which is soon - hopefully) it will take back its glory as they almost always do.

when EFI technology becomes standard cache won't really matter as much anyways. Who knows how far away that is. However, the newest line of intel macs do use EFI technology. So at least it is being produced.

I know that higher caches are only realy better in certain circumstances, but I don't know what they are. Most of the time, the amount of cache you have won't matter.
