disc read error when booting

For the mentally impaired it's like this.

You download the file to your harddrive. Put it in an accessible directory.

You boot the Recovery Console with the CD.

You log on to Windows.

You access the file.

You execute it.

That wasn't so hard now was it? :rolleyes:

Once you boot with the installation disk you wouldn't even be using fdisk. You simply use the fixmbr command for the mbr itself. Fixboot is the command used to repair the boot sector. For the actual list of commands used at the recovery console Microsoft will gladly provide you with that at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058 :rolleyes: go back to sleep!

They both do different things, and FIXMBR wouldn't fix his problem. That's what I've been trying to tell you. Geez. You don't know what you're talking about at ALL. FIXMBR fixes the boot partition if it's damaged by a virus. FDISK /MBR is used to create a boot partition if none exists. You might know everything there is to know about Google, but geez you don't know much about computers.. *sigh*

Oh really? The idea of the repair install method does a little more then any of the commands there by restoring other information on the drive especially if there was loss from bad sectors that have developed. That will go around those to see if the drive is worth saving.(aaaahh yawn... go to sleep :D )
 
Whatever PC Eye.. I know you don't know what you're talking about. I think others are figuring it out too.. Some have even made mention of it.... Just don't pretend to know something when you don't. Truthfully that's what's irritating.

Forget about the repair install. All he has to do is follow the steps outlined and use something dramatic like a repair install as a last resort.
 
Ok. Now I'm stupid and don't know what a repair install does. Fair enough. Whatever....
