Hi, well I just scanned my ports and foundout that three of my ports are open.
Port 1029
Port 1030
Port 1039
So I was wonder if this is something I should worry about or if these ports are suposed to be open.
Thank you :)

I have EZ firewall, its a copy of zone alarm but free from RoadRunner.
I just put all my settigs on high and still have 2 ports open
Port: 1029
Port: 1030
My dad is running Win2000Pro with same firewall and only has one port open.
You said proper system has all ports closed? How would u download stuff then, if all ports are closed?
PS: By the way I have one question, is it better to have ports closed or stealth? I heard that stelth is better but I am not sure.

Thank you

When you access the internet etc then you open the appropriate port. This port (being in use) will show stealthed on a scan. All other ports should also show closed (or in stealth mode). It sounds to me that you need to try a different firewall. Install a different one and see if you get the same results.

terii is correct. Just look at any Linux system and out of the box, it will have zero open ports. Windows on the other hand is full of useless (to most people) services that advertise themselves on the public Internet with open ports. File sharing is enabled by default...and so on.

Making the ports "look like they are closed" (i.e. "stealth") is cool but the underlying service should be closed if it's not being used for a hardened system.

First thing I do on a fresh install of Windows is go through disabling unnecessary services, closing ports etc. That despite me being behind a NAT router and hardware firewall, but there's no such thing as "OTT" in security.

For a free firewall, I recomend Comodo . It is amazing and I did all kinds of tests from Leak tests to port tests and all the results were excellent.
