blank disks

A DVD is a DVD is a DVD... Other than size differences(dual layer and single layer) you can burn anything to them. The only other limiting factor is what your burner can handle(DVD+ or DVD-...or both.)

Often the price seen for a name brand media is around the price seen there for a 50pack. There wouldn't be any problem here using those for video projects as well as data dvds. The "-" type not the "+" will work on just about every burner in current use. The earlier burners often refused to run with "+" media. If you see the "+" seen over "-" sign in the manfacturer's product detail page those will work out.

You'd be suprised how many drives will only write to + disks. There was a post about that just a few days ago...

On the older style burners it can actually be one or the other. I remember one of the recent threads on this. Finding out what make and model burner could help here. You would end up looking over the manufacturer's details to see what they show for media type or types that can be used. When you see both on a drive bought separately at least you are covered there.

And the word from Dell is.... http://www.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/entnb_e1705?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs no information there on make and model drive as usual. Nice promo in a popup window... daaaa... specifications page at http://www.dell.com/content/topics/.../en/inspn_e1705_sp_spec?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs ???

Well the "+/-" seen in the details or on the retail carton is the one thing to look for to make sure you can use bith types without problems. Most new burners out for desktops anyways offer support for a larger variety of blank media. Often you will find that certain brands will work better with one make of drive over others.
