That's a pretty darn good computer. Used, I would pay at least $1600 for it.

Your memory is running at 400MHz. Read this.
 
ye i know i thinks a pretty good offer. So i the ram in that system is quite good then :)

Ask if its ever been overclocked,ask if there has ever been any part replacement and stuff i suppose.Ask him to play on it a little.

Everything is new apart from PSU and GPU which are about 2 months old. He's oc'd it to 3.7 for benchmarking.

Gona tell him to leave it on so i can play with it. He's got 2 hard drives, will this slow performance down a lot, will i have 2 drives C's, or is 1 used for OS and programs and the other for storage?

As far as I know, and can see from whats written, one will be for storage and one will be for the os and booting and such. This of course unless the two hard drives are arranged in a raid configuration (i.e. raid zero basically treats both as one big hard drive and raid 1 basically makes a backup of whats on the first hard drive...i doubt he'd have a raid 5 because thats pretty much used for servers unless im mistaken). Ya so unless he's got it running a raid config, which i havent checked the motherboard specs to see if it supports it, then yes one would be for os and booting, and the other for storage.

This was the way my laptop was set up...it had two 100gig hard drives and i thought "cool...". I was a noob then lol but then realized only one of the hard drives were configured to be bootable and the other was for storage...kinda sucked cuz i didnt need storage space. I would rather have had a raid 0 config so i would have more space that was bootable instead of only one 100gig hard drive. I dont store movies or pics on it so i dont even use it tbh. thinking about taking it out and using it as an external that my gf can use. sorry offtopic. but ya as i stated above unless im mistaken

ye i dont think hes running it in RAID cfg. Is it easy to change it and have a RAID setup. Is it better that just having two drives?
 
I haven't actually used a raid 0 setup before, just know a little bit about it. Im not sure if the mobo has a raid controller built into it but a quick google check should tell you, but even so they make expansion cards that basically let you do that. Maybe some of the other guys might know more.
And for use, it really depends on what you are gonna use the second hard drive for. If your using it to store stuff than i dont really see a need to go out and buy a raid controller or anything. So it really depends on what your gonna use it for i guess. From what I've heard it apparently makes it a little faster, but if your looking for speed then getting a 10,000 rpm drive would be faster than running those two in raid. but your prob not gonna go out and buy a new hdd...it isnt neccessary for you. it really isnt. so with the size of the hard drives i doubt your gonna need to do a raid config.

I would worry about making sure everything else is in good order before worrying about setting up a raid 0...like it was said before "have him play it for you"...make sure it works fine before you buy it. I would concentrate on whether or not everything is in good working order. Because it would suck if you bought the computer and got it back and realized that his OC's messed up some of the hardware and its running underclocked just so it will run right. I'd just make sure you know what your buying, what to look out for, and most of all that it runs the way it should.

k thx for that info, i think ill keep it as it is, ill have 1 for storgae and the other for games. Well im goin to pick it up so if there is anything wrong with it ill be straight round there and ill tell him to fix it. Ill just have a look at CPUZ and see wot its running at, it shud be 3.2ghz rite. Duno wot programs i can use to check it tho
 
3.2 ghz would be if it was overclocked. at stock speeds the e6400 runs at about 2.13 or something like that...my e6300 is stock at 1.86ghz.

so if he tells you its at stock speeds and its running at 3.2 then hes blowing smoke out his bumm. even the core 2 extreme doesnt run that high stock...

but if he did the overclock well and its working fine and not overheating then you should be good...how much are you paying for this again?sorry just wondering

Lol ok i read it wrong, it says that he's running it at 3.2 ghz at default voltage. And hes got it up to 3.7 ghz for benching.

I guess thats even better right. Saves me having to do it, plus im a total noob with it
 
Sorry I was under the misunderstanding that he had overclocked it for benching...had got it up to 3.7ghz, but the pic was when he was at 3.2ghz...i was under the understanding that it was just for the benchmark and it was going back to originall settings. yes then it should be at 3.2 when you get it unless he changed it. either way as long as its running cool, or atleast not overheating then you should be ok. ohh and the price thing i saw but im used to u.s. currency so i guess ill just look it up...anyways everything you listed looks good so if it runs well then go for it. i enjoyed building it myself but things are probably expensive so getting a good cheap supplier would be hard so it would prob be cheaper to buy that and then upgrade later if you wanted...not like there is much you need or would want to upgrade on it now lol...ya so good find and i hope it works out great for you
