Dead DVD RW Drive

Recently I've attempted to reflash the firmware on my DVD drive, while reflashing it power went down (I'm sooo lucky :sarcasm: ), so the drive is now like totaly dead, tray won't open, not recognized in BIOS etc.. I haven't done much research but is it possible to somehow bring it back to life again without replacing the firmware chip, not that I would do that, I said it so someone doesn't say - you can replace the firmware chip.

btw, I've already purchased a new drive.

I would have thought the firmware flash would be soldered for CD-ROM drives, and in any case it isn't worth replacing. Bin it.

According to the post, the power went down while it was flashing.

This happend to a friend he flashed the wrong firmware and then hes drive died

It's finished. That's all there is to it. You have to buy a new one.

Well ya, thanks to all replies, I had to make sure, didn't have time to do any searches really, SirKenin, I've already bought a new one.
