Hey. I was talking to my best friend and he said that he got a 9,000 on 3dmark06 with an evga 7900gt ko...is that possible??? heres his other specs

intel celly 3.2ghz
1 gig pc3200 ram
74gig raptor

i was excited about my scores for the bench and he was like ohh ya my rig got 9000...and im gonna get 15,000 when i get another and sli them...can you really get a 9000 with that set up. i mean the celly has to get like only 300 marks or something, so the gpu is getting 8700ish...can anyone confirm this, just wondering if hes bullshitting me again or telling the truth

hes always had to have a better computer than me adn has always thrown it in my face, when i got my laptop, which smoked his little ibm thinkpad with integrated graphics (i got a core duo with 7400go and a gig of ddr2667) he just through this rig in my face...now with my new comp hes like ohh it sounds good but expensive (which it really wasnt...he spent 300 on a single gpu lol). i dont really care if his beats mine...just want to know if that score sounds logical to you guys

anyone run an evga 7900gt ko that can confirm scores anywhere near this
and i already asked him if he meant 05 and he definitely said 06

idk just wondering

Heh it would get a better score than 300.

But no he is not telling you the truth, that or he might be running the test using a much lower resolution than the default 1280x1024.

Or he could simply have used 3DMark 05 instead of 06.

ya he was apparently running the wrong test because he said he ran it and got a 5500...which even that is prob an exaggeration seeing how i told him i got ~5000. always has to one up me...i wonder if he'll send me a print screen or something...anyways thanks guys

if you got the same video card as him, your comp would absolutely waste his comp. His processor must be a HUGE bottleneck for the card.

an X6800 with quad SLi gets like an 18000 or so.

Uh..... no. Quad rigs get no performance gains right now. Two 7900gtx's beat 4 7950gtx's by a healthy margin. Due to bad drivers or just the fact that quad is going to have no future I don't know. Anyways why x6800? That is worse than a 7600gt. You can't get that high of a score unless you have a dream build that is overclocked very very heavily.

that sounds to me more like his 3dmark05 score.
check with him.
my 7900gtx would get around 6000 paired with my x2 3800+ and thats a much better card than the 7900gt.
however... my 7800gt i know scores around 8000-8500 if i recall correctly, in 3dmark05... that should place the 7900gt around 9000 :)

yea... and how would quad SLI score lower than dual 7900gtx's? that makes no sense...
thats like relating dual video cards to dual core, when video cards do many smaller "threads" if you will, more cards would DEFINITELY be beneficial as long as there are no FPS limits (vsync)... thats like saying 48 pixel pipelines and 16 vertex shaders is better than 96 pixel pipelines and 32 vertex shaders... because it isn't, not even at the higher clocks... in fact you would need double the clocks for it to match up (actually it would beat it, but still)

sure, it wouldn't be beneficial in games, but thats only because games limits the fps to the screen refresh rate, using vsync normally...
in 3dmark however, it would give a MUCH higher score.

I read my maximum pc. ;) Their website isn't updated right now so I can't give you a link but it is true. The main use for the cards were supposed to be for high resolution big screen gaming. They were tested in 3DMARK05. Scores are around 1,000 points lower compared to two 7900gtx's.

Even 5500 is still too high for his setup, I have my 7900gt ko at 537/1700 with my 3700+ sandy at 2.75GHz which would whoop his cpu and don't even break 5k.
