My computer is slowly dying

Hello guys. I could really do with some help:

My HP pavilion is its death throws, it seems. It has started clicking and wheezing and then it shuts down. It kind of sounds like the floppy drive is ill, really not sure though. I get a blue screen and a message about a memory dump or something. I haven't installed any new to the pc btw.

Ohhhhh, help me! :(

Sounds like your HD bit the dust man
 
Yeah sounds like the Hard drive as your saying clicking and wheezing.

If you dont have any knowledge about Pcs then take it into a computer store to find out whats wrong with it.

How long you had the Pc?
 
Yeah, as long as it's still running, but you better hurry. Not meaning to put the fear of God into you or anything, but it could die at any time. I wouldn't procrastinate if you have valuable files on it.
 
What you should try first is reinstalling Windows, since that solves most problems. 3 years isnt that old for a hard drive, so it shouldn't be dying if it was used under normal circumstances.

If you do get a new hard drive, you can use the Windows XP files and settings transfer wizard to move your documents, favorites, and settings to the new drive.
 
If you know anyone who could help you rather than taking it to a store then ask them. Stores usually charge silly money for very simple things (like backing up your data and installing a new drive) What could have been a relatively cheap bill could turn out quite expensive.

About re-installing windows.. windows was already on the pc, I don't have a disk. Is there still a way to do it?
 
oh.. when it shuts down it says to not use things like caching (sp?) and shadowing. How do I stop using them?
