I need a fast computer!!!

Hope some of you may be able to help me. I have a business and we do CNC machining. My programmer needs a FAST computer for CAD/CAM. I'm trying to get some advice on what components I should use.

Currently I have a Pentium D processor and an Intel mother board, 2G DDR2 ram and a SATA 10K HD. The FSB speed is 800Mhz. The problem is that when we have to calculate tool paths for the CNC machine it takes 30-60 minutes. It's not unusual to have to do this several times a day. The previous computer was an AMD Athalon 64, I don't think the new computer is any faster than the old one.

I need something that is fast, maybe dual, dual core processors. Money is not a major object but a consideration. I would like to get something that's at least twice as fast. Any advice is appeciated.

To be honest if its taking that long might be due to the way the software is running, might need to look into improving the software as PC specs are pretty good to be honest. If it is old software then wont be operating using the new features such as the Dual core...

It is possible to see an A64 spank a Pentium D. Depends on which one you had. To meet the demands of your software you might have to upgrade to a Core2Duo.

- X6800 (Processor)
- ASUSTek WS PRO (Motherboard)
- 15K 147GB Fujitsu SCSI Drive (Hard Drive)
- 4GB Corsair XMS2 "Dominator" PC2-8000 (RAM)
- SCSI Adaptec (PCI Card)
- ATI Radeon X1950XT-X

That should set your systems up a notch or.. twenty!

A gaming graphics card on a CAD system? A waste of money, I would say.

you need to get your mitts on a celeron man. any celeron would totally spank any other processor out there ... period.

Don't listen to this guy, he doesn't know what he's saying :)

What about dual, dual core Xenon processors. There are motherboards to support these and they are designed for server applications. Would there be any problems with running it as a stand alone PC?

Yeah, jet - you're right actually, must of been going through a drool phase there..

If your budget is no option, a new MAC PRO sounds like the option for me. Just bootcamp Windows into it.. Standard is 2 Xeons..

ive got pretty much the same problem. i have a diminsion 4600, and i wanna be able to play games on it(TESOblivion). its also slower'n hell.heres the specs i can find, more of an order form really. Is there a way to make it faster, or do i just need a new one? Cause if i need a new one, i wanna build it.

You should make a new thread reguarding this, as you want a gaming computer, and he wants a CAD computer.

yeah im not really sure what this guys problem is i've looked at all of his posts and they ARE rather strange...

Considering that money is no object :

Intel's E8400(or better) and of course a mobo that supports that socket
2GB 800MHz RAM(or more)
8800GT
Of course you need the DVD drive and case and atleast 550 PSU. Hard drive you already have
