Dell XPS 410 - did I do good or waste money?

Hello! I just bought a new Dell XPS 410. Even if you hate Dell, can you tell me if I did good and got a decent system, or if I overspent?

Here's what I got:
(note: I copied and pasted some stuff from the Help and Support Center
on my PC so the details would be there....)

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 (Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6700 @ 2.66GHz)

The final cost was $3,773.


A few days after I got the computer, I peeked on Dell's website and saw they started offering 2 new graphics cards for the XPS 410 that they didn't offer when I bought my system. Since I had $4,000 in credit to use to get no interest for 18 months, I could have gotten one of them - I was kinda dissappointed.

These are the 2 new cards they offer now - is it worth going to the store and buying one and upgrading my system myself? Or is the one I have OK?
(So far everything is working great....but just wondering)

1GB NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2 Dual-GPU Graphics Card
512MB nVidia GeForce 7900 GTX

Looks like an amazing system. I really don't think you need the extra 512MB nVidia GeForce 7900 GTX because 512MB is a lot anyways. Unless you do a lot of heavy gaming and like to play your games on high setting then maybe you should.
 
holy crap 4 gigs of ram...You definetly overspent on that system. Anyways, just seems kind of unbalanced with a 7900GS and the other parts.
 
You should be able to game with everythings set on high. Good system though way overpriced compared to a DYI build.

Couple questions: what is a DYI build? I'm assuming it is building your own. I wish I knew how. Your X6800 system looks amazing! I wanted that type of system but Dell's XPS 700 loaded how I wanted was upwards of 7k.

If I had built the computer myself with all the components I listed, how much do you think it could have ended up costing, vs. the $3700?

Ya i did,i used my old parts from my old system like dvd writer/reader and my old floppy and psu in this one and just put it together,i've built a few computers so this one wasn't my first.

it off before 18 months go by, or else I get hit with 18 mo. worth of interest all at once! :eek: That would suck :) thanks again for your input. My next computer I am coming looking for you to hire you to build me one. :)

It does not take much to bulild your own computer. It is actually quite easy and you save money.
 
It looks like a descent price to me... Most people forget that when you buy a Dell, you also pay for the service, and Windows etc.
the only thing i do not really agree with in that system is the grafic's card.
I'd go for a 7900GTX or a x1900xt(x) :)
and maybe 4Gb of RAM is a bit overkill (unless running win xp x64 ;) )
i think 2Gb will be enough.

I like the system, and if you dont want to build one yourself, i'd go for it tbh.
( hmm... i'd like that monitor.. :o )

EDIT: Dell isnt really know (at least not to me) for beeing cheap.. so the system is a bit on the excpensive side.. However,. you get what you paid for... its really an awesome pc, and i really wouldnt call it a rip-off :)

it's not that hard to put things in yourself, and you would probably save yourself over $1k.. if I was you, I would return it, then go to some decent local computer store, pick all the parts you want and they will put it all together for $50... i dont care how much $ you got, 1000$ is 1000$, unless your bank account has 6 figures in it
