ok I just bought a used computer but they erased all software including xp. When I boot up it flashes the Windows 98 screen real quick, then goes to the black screen where you enter commands. On the top left corner of the command screen it says Windows 98. How do I know if I need to get the upgrade XP disc ($80) or the full XP disc ($200)?

You will find a full version of XP Home with SP2 for about $74 at the link posted earlier. If you want the Pro version run a good search like "XP Pro cd" in the search engine. You will find a few shopping sites that compare prices between various online vendors for the same item.

Anyone looking for XP Pro 64bit? $69.70 at http://www.viosoftware.com/Windows+...nextag&utm_medium=mall&utm_campaign=ZAT-00007

Someone say XP Pro with SP2? $89.99 at https://shop.edirectsoftware.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=16134

go to a colllege that has windows license as they often sell copies of windows to certain students in some programs for very cheap(my brother is in school for engineering and he got a copy of windows x32, x64, and visual studio for something like $15)you dont actully own it but its legal to use

Copies like that are covered under a corporate license agreement. Oem sales although discouraged by software companies are legal. They simply stick the "for use with this machine only" label there. With Vista coming out at the beginning of 2007 it is still surprising to see copies of all three version of XP for over $300! at several online vendors. The links posted earlier are for retail boxed copies not oems by the way. Those will include the manual.
