Can I do this??
Now have an older system with 85Gig IDE drive, Win XP Pro loaded. Getting new system that comes with Win XP Media on a 300G SATA drive. I need to keep my old data so can I put this IDE dirve into the new case as a slave with the new SATA as primary? I want to do this and copy all files/programs to new drive then reformate slave to have a clean drive. Please advise if you can. Thanks

well... if your new pc's motherboard still has IDE slots, i dont see a problem :) however,.. make sure you pick the right windows on startup,.. since the new pc will most likely have a completely different chipse, the old windows will pretty sure not work on it :o

I believe that the SATA drives are automatically used as Master, since Sata doesnt use the master/slave options. Therefore the SATA drive will be fine, and the IDE will be slave (or secondary master however you want to look at it)
