Core 2 Duo VS. Pentium D

Which of these do you think i should go for? i think core duo is better but my budget allows only for approximate $150 for the Processor. please help me out here.
also whats the diffrence between hyperthreading and Pentium D????

Pentium D's are 64bit processors, as are a few Pentium 4's. Core 2 Duo's out perform the Pentium D's greatly. If your budget allows, definatley get a C2D, but if you can't, I would look into the AMD Athlon X2 3800+. Pentium D's are dual core processors, as are the C2D's. They have 2 processor cores on one die. Hyperthreading is 1 physical core, and 1 "virtual" core. HT CPU's act as dual cores, but they don't perform nearly as well. Hope that clears it up a bit.

ya sorry, i meant that the core 2 duo was the first core duo 64 bit processor, the original core duo is 32bit.

Intel Core Duo = 32 bit Dual core (I remember hearing that they are 32bit Dual cores)
Intel Core 2 Duo = 64 bit Dual core
Intel Pentium 4 5xx series = Single core; Older models are 32bit
Intel Pentium 4 6xx series = 64 bit Single core
Intel Pentium D 8xx series = 64 bit Dual core, 90nm processing
Intel Pentium D 9xx series = 64 bit Dual core, 65nm processing

If you can stretch your budget 30 bux, u can get the lowest c2d for 180...for 30 extra the performance increase would be amazing.

Article? I was not aware that CD supported 64-bit extensions. This was one reason the C2D was so widely waited on in the Laptop community was it would be the Intel 64-bit dual core solution if they could only wait for it to release.

All the folks on the board I was on must be kicking themselves that they bought Turion X2's in stead.

I was wrong, my bad.:o I thought that the Yonah's were 64-bit :o
