I dont think it realy matters i mean i use Virtual machines and its more ram that you need realy not processor.

Your processor should be fine.

It is all about RAM. If you plan on running VMware of any type I would suggest at least 2gig of RAM. When you run a VM you have to allocate a chunk of ram to that virutal OS. You would want at least 512 if not a whole gig to the virtual machine depending on what you are doing with it.

What are your ultimate goals for running virtual machines, there are less taxing ways to run cross platforms...

Yes because if you dont allocate a chunk of ram to that virutal OS then it will be slow as hell and your Host OS will become unstable with the lack of ram and crash like mine did:D

I alocated 256Mb for Virtual leaving 256Mb for the host (Xp) and it was fine but slow.

256mb for an OS is not really my cup of tea, sure it will run but not the way you want it to. I know when I run windows xp via parallels on my macs at work it is nice to have 2gig of ram so I can allocate 512 or more to the virtual windows machine

Its not my cup of tea either:D But thats how it goes when your stuck with only 512Mb of ram.

I only wanted to try out a few Linux distros on it anyway so 256Mb was plenty realy.

Just so people don't start quoting me here, I accidently voted for Intel, but in reality both AMD and Intel are perfectly fine, with the right chips.
