I am new to this overclocking ability etc. I have an AM2 Amd athlon x2 4200+ @ 2.21 ghz and I was thinking of getting it to about 2.4 ghz. What program(s) would i need to do this? My comp is running at around 20-30 C and im guessing it wont have any over heating problems if i over clock it?

Another thing, what precautions would i need to know before overclocking and not damaging my hardware.

1a. check temps, make sure they're in check. (an idle of 30C is good)
1b. if temps are high, try reseating the heatsink, or buying an aftermarket cooler. arctic silver 5 and the thermaltake big typhoon are two of the best cooling products on the market, together they cost around $50
2. (dual) prime95 - get familiar with this program. it tests for stress and system stability. http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm
ways to add stability: lower frequency (what i do) raise voltage (not suggested because voltage raises heat a LOT)
3. you'll want to overclock within the bios. you can't overclock in the bios of dell, hp, and other pre-built systems.
4. read overclocking101, its a good guide and you'll need to familiarize yourself with it before you go and overclock that thing.
